Senior Project Manager

The Project We are lookin for a consultant to support our client in advancing its laboratory automation initiatives within R&D as part of the DAN PMO team. The objective is to strengthen the automation program/project delivery capabilities by applying effective, scalable, and standardized PMO governance - improving planning, decision-making, and follow-up - so that automation workstreams can progress with predictable timelines, clear accountability, and reliable reporting. The consultant will support the DAN Program Manager and work closely with the PMO team in coordinating automation-related initiatives. While the role is PMO-focused, it will require close collaboration with automation stakeholders (e.g., R&D lab representatives and technical leads) to ensure that governance requirements are accurately translated into practical templates, steering/gate materials, and Ways of Working - thereby enabling consistent preparation of inputs, timely escalation of required decisions, and high-quality, well-documented automation program updates for governance forums. Background to the project: DAN (Distributed Automation Network) program aims to catalyze large transformational automation projects across R&D. By working closely with technicians, scientists and managers the DAN initiative identifies bottlenecks and opportunities for automation, helping to scope and implement effective solutions. Through cross-functional engagement, DAN contributes to Novo Nordisk’s overall strategy by defining best practices and enabling compatibility across laboratories, thereby enhancing innovation and operational efficiency in line with the company’s broader ambitions. Project objective: The objective is to strengthen the DAN PMO automation governance and delivery effectiveness through the development and rollout of standardized ways of working, governance material templates, and strategic PMO enablers. The Consultant will focus on process improvements and strategic decision making while creating reusable deliverables (e.g., templates, steering/gate decks, and governance packs) improving clarity for automation program teams. 2.3 The scope of the Project: The scope covers PMO enablement activities, with a strong focus on identifying, shaping, and implementing new strategic initiatives within PPM. This includes the creation, implementation, and adoption of governance and PMO assets in close alignment with the DAN PMO direction. Main responsibilities: Identify and assess strategic initiative opportunities Gather input from stakeholders through meetings and review cycles (e.g., pain points, bottlenecks, manual effort, reporting gaps). Assess current PPM governance processes, templates, workflows, and reporting formats. Propose initiative options and drive alignment on objectives, impact, scope, and adoption approach. Implement new strategic initiatives and embed them into the PPM ecosystem Translate strategic intent into actionable governance and PMO changes. Build and deploy standards/templates for automation projects to ensure consistent quality, usability, and faster execution. Establish and roll out consistent Ways of Working for automation program teams to enable scaled delivery. Develop decision-ready governance artifacts Create decision-ready steering/gate materials and guidance that help stakeholders make timely, informed decisions. Ensure governance artifacts are structured to support predictable decision timelines and reduce rework. Lead operationalized improvements Support PPM tool implementation and adoption by e.g. aligning templates, workflows, and reporting formats to governance requirements. Identify and implement targeted enhancements that enable new strategic initiatives. Drive adoption and continuous improvement Lead enablement activities (e.g., onboarding, playbooks, training sessions, office hours, Q&A) to ensure teams adopt the new initiatives effectively. Monitor outcomes and continuously improve PMO processes and governance communications to sustain value realization. Required Skills: To support automation projects in R&D, Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in PMO teams with a specific focus on identifying and implementing strategic initiatives. Strong documentation practices and attention to detail are required. The Consultant should demonstrate relevant experience in the following areas: Demonstrated capabilities within change management Proven experience delivering PMO enablement outputs, such as developing templates, governance material structures, and/or steering/gate slide content. Experience working in or supporting portfolio/program governance, including an understanding of what decision-ready materials should contain. Demonstrated capability to translate governance requirements into clear, reusable artifacts (templates, decks, instruction guides, WoW documents). Strong writing and presentation skills, with attention to structure, consistency, and stakeholder readability. Relevant / preferred experience Experience in automation, R&D, engineering operations, or similar technical environments is an advantage (not mandatory). Experience with governance frameworks (e.g., stage-gate, steering committee governance, portfolio performance management). Experience facilitating workshops or onboarding sessions for project teams and governance stakeholders. Experience supporting (or contributing to) PPM tool implementation/adoption. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and translate different perspectives into standardized governance artifacts. High reliability and ability to manage version control and quality of PMO content and templates. Good understanding of governance cadence and stakeholder expectations. Capability to work in a regulated/corporate environment with attention to compliance and confidentiality. Willingness to operate as a PMO enabler for teams (support adoption, not only creation).
